History and heritage
St Andrew's Church, on Church Lane, is Grade I listed and dates mainly from the 13th to 15th centuries, with a major Victorian restoration in 1876 to 1877 by the architect William Butterfield. Its six bells include one cast in 1673. The Red Lion, the village's pub, is itself a separately listed building. The whole village centre was designated the West Deeping Conservation Area in January 1983.
West Deeping also has a genuinely deep archaeological history: excavations at the Cemex quarry on the edge of the village, carried out by the Cambridge Archaeological Unit in 2020 and 2021, uncovered evidence of activity spanning around 6,000 years, including Bronze Age settlement remains and a Roman trackway running towards Market Deeping.
